Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our classroom website. Here you will find information that your child needs in order to be successful in the art classroom. This year, your child will participate in a special art course that will use science concepts as the foundation for art projects. It will be an exciting program that will help your child acquire skills necessary in other academic courses. You might ask yourself, "what can my child possibly learn in art that will help in academics?" The answer is EVERYTHING! Art broadens a child's perception of the world around them. Studies show that art instruction affects student achievement. Students that highly participate in the arts WILL do better in the SAT and other college entrance exams! Why? Art promotes discipline, focus, critical thinking, observation and more! The visual skills that your child attains in the art room can transfer to a wide range of careers - surgeon, architect, engineer, chemist...

Excellent question! Your art courses are designed to provide you with the hands-on experience and critical thinking skills that hundreds of jobs require. The arts introduce young minds to abstract and spatial forms of thinking....How will this help you in your future career? Art allows you to learn experientially through new techniques of making. Art history shows you a historical overview of how people have made things for thousands of years. While science class will teach you the periodic table, art and art history will teach you how some of those elements are used as pigments and building materials. Understanding that Iron(III)-hexacyanoferrate(II) is more than a formula but one of the most beautiful and deepest blue pigments (Prussian Blue) will lead you to make an impressive connection between learning and using what you know to change the world around you.
